Ukraine returns 277 soldiers from captivity – President Zelenskyy

During the prisoner exchange on April 19, 277 soldiers returned to Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War have reported this.

"Another 277 soldiers returned home from Russian captivity. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and border guards. They defended Mariupol and other areas in the Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk Regions," the Head of State emphasized.

Zelenskyy thanked everyone involved in organizing the exchange, especially mentioning the mediation of the United Arab Emirates.

As reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, most of those whom they managed to return are young people born after 2000. Among those returned is a female servicewoman who had been in captivity since May 2022.

268 of those released are privates and non-commissioned officers, and 9 officers were also returned.

The current exchange is the fourth this year and the 63rd since the start of the full-scale invasion.

This year alone, 596 Ukrainians have been returned home from russian captivity as part of exchanges, and 53 defenders have been released outside of exchanges.

In total, 4,552 Ukrainian citizens have been released by the Coordination Headquarters as part of the negotiation process and exchanges since March 2022. An additional 529 people have been released from russian captivity outside of exchanges.
