US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that the US "will step back from efforts to broker peace" in Ukraine if a "clear path" does not emerge soon.
NATO spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced this, the US State Department press service reports.
Rubio spoke with Rutte on Friday to inform him about the peace proposal presented yesterday to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris and russian officials by phone.
It is indicated that the Secretary of State expressed the hope of Trump and the United States that this proposal will be accepted and will lead to a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine.
He also stressed that, despite the fact that the United States "has been committed to helping end the war,” if a clear path to peace does not emerge in the near future, "the United States will step back from efforts to broker peace."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously told reporters that US President Donald Trump would abandon attempts to conclude a peace agreement between russia and Ukraine within a few days if there are no clear signs that an agreement can be concluded.
Meanwhile, the United States presented its allies in Paris with proposals for concluding a peace agreement between russia and Ukraine, including determining the conditions for a cessation of hostilities and easing sanctions against moscow in the event of a lasting ceasefire.
