Trump blocks Israel's plan to strike Iran's nuclear facilities - NYT

The Israel Defense Forces planned to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, but US President Donald Trump refused to approve it.

This is reported by The New York Times.

The Israeli army expected the US to support its plan to attack Iranian nuclear facilities in May, but this did not happen.

The publication claims that Trump insisted on continuing diplomatic talks with official Tehran. This decision was preceded by long internal debates in the US administration.

The CIA warned that the increase in the US military presence in the region could provoke a larger conflict with Iran, which Washington seeks to avoid. This assessment was supported by key representatives of the US leadership.

Israel developed plans to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, counting on US support. However, most attack scenarios assumed the participation of the American side not only to protect Israel from a possible Iranian response, but also to successfully carry out the operation itself. Even those who initially supported the idea of a strike, in particular Advisor Waltz, doubted its effectiveness without US assistance. As a result, Israel did not dare to attack independently.

Recall that in early April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Washington - this was his second meeting with Trump since the beginning of the latter's presidential term.
