Bulgaria will not sell reactors for Khmelnytskyi NPP to Ukraine

Bulgaria will not sell reactors from the Belene NPP to Ukraine for the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

This is reported by bTV, citing the words of the country's Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Atanas Zafirov, Ekonomichna Pravda reports.

According to him, negotiations were held with partners in the Joint Management Council, as well as with GERB leader Boyko Borisov regarding the fate of the two reactors for the Belene NPP.

Zafirov stressed that an agreement was reached not to sell them.

As he noted, the reactors are not being sold, but are a key asset of Bulgaria and part of its energy independence.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 16, a permit came into force for the national nuclear power generating company Energoatom to purchase equipment (nuclear reactors and components) from the National Electricity Company of Bulgaria for the construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant.

Andriy Zhupanyn, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction and deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services, believes that the completion of two power units at the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant will make it possible to avoid increasing tariffs for the population.
