Simplified military training program for former "limitedly fit" personnel will be introduced from May – General Staff

A simplified basic general military training program for former "limitedly fit" personnel will be introduced from May.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine have developed changes to the basic general military training program, which will reduce the burden on servicemen fit for service in support units, security units, territorial recruitment and social support centers, higher military educational institutions, training centers, institutions, medical units, as well as logistics, communications and security units," the message says.

The corresponding decision was made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Starting from May 1, the specified categories of servicemen will undergo the basic general military training according to the updated program, which provides for:

reduction of the training period to one month (instead of 45 days);

reduction of the level of physical exertion;

formation of separate training units (companies or platoons).

The changes apply to both servicemen who have just been called up for service and those who have previously undergone training at military training departments or are undergoing the basic general military training again for various reasons.

This concerns the former category of "limitedly fit", who, according to changes in the legislation, must serve exclusively in rear units – according to the decision of the military medical commission.

The Ministry of Defense notes that the purpose of the changes is to streamline the training program, reduce its intensity for the relevant category of servicemen, taking into account the recommendations of the Presidential Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen and Their Families, as well as to replenish the support units.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, persons liable for military service with limited fitness must re-pass the military medical commission by June 5.
