US President Trump extends Biden’s sanctions against russia

US President Donald Trump has extended the sanctions that Biden has imposed against russia since 2021.

This is stated in the US Federal Register document.

Trump extended Biden's decrees for one year, which introduced a state of emergency in relations with russia and allowed the imposition of sanctions against russia.

"The malign foreign activities of the government of the russian federation ... continue to pose an extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. For this reason, the state of emergency should continue to be in effect after April 15, 2025," the report said.

The report also mentions that russia continues to pose a threat to free elections and democratic institutions in the United States and its allies.

It also mentions participation and assistance in cyberattacks against the United States; promoting and using transnational corruption to influence foreign governments; acting against dissidents or journalists; undermining security in countries and regions critical to U.S. national security; violating established principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states.

On April 15, 2021, Biden declared a state of emergency by Executive Order No. 14024 to address the threat posed by the malign activities of the russian government.

On March 8, 2022, Biden issued Executive Order No. 14066, which expanded the scope of the state of emergency, and several more executive orders were issued thereafter, expanding sanctions against russia.
