Prada announced the acquisition of the Versace fashion house. The cost of the deal was EUR 1.25 billion - and some publications have already dubbed it "the biggest deal of 2025". This is reported by the NY Times.
The Italian conglomerate Prada currently owns several fashion brands at once: in addition to Prada itself, it owns Miu Miu, Church's, Car Shoe, Marchesi 1824 and Luna Rossa. Now Versace has also entered Prada's coffers.
It is worth noting that in 2018 Versace was sold to the American fashion conglomerate Capri Holdings. Then the deal was EUR 1.83 billion, but now Capri has decided to get rid of the asset.
The Italian Prada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino. At first they were engaged in importing leather goods, and only then began their own production.
As for Versace, this company appeared in 1978 - it was founded by designer Gianni Versace. In addition to clothing, Versace also sells perfumes, watches, accessories and other luxury items.
As previously reported, last year Prada, together with the American startup Axiom Space, developed a spacesuit design that will be worn by the first female astronaut to set foot on the moon as part of the NASA Artemis 3 mission.
