At least six European countries ready to send troops to Ukraine to ensure ceasefire — AFP

At least six countries are ready to send their armed forces to Ukraine to ensure a ceasefire. Unnamed officials told this to AFP.

According to the agency, today, April 10, European defense ministers held new talks on a possible deployment of troops in Ukraine.

According to the British Defense Minister John Healey, the planning for sending troops to Ukraine is "real" and "substantial."

"Our reassurance force for Ukraine would be a committed and credible security arrangement to ensure that any negotiated peace does bring what President Trump has pledged, a lasting peace for Ukraine," the agency quotes him as saying.

However, AFP notes that despite London's statements about the progress made, other European defense ministers are still unclear about the goals of any possible deployment. Possible support for this mission from the United States also remains in question.

According to European officials, six countries, including the UK, France and the Baltic states, have so far said they could contribute troops.

The main problem for European allies trying to develop any plan is that they are largely unaware of US and russian efforts to end the fighting.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 27, French President Emmanuel Macron said that members of the "Coalition of the Willing" had been tasked with developing plans to monitor the ceasefire in Ukraine.

The day before, on March 26, Reuters reported, citing its own sources, that Europe was no longer considering sending troops to Ukraine, but was thinking about alternatives.
