Trump clarifies when Musk will leave his temporary position

US President Donald Trump said that the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, billionaire Elon Musk, will stay in his position, in his opinion, for several more months.

He told reporters on board Air Force One, NBC News reports.

So, Trump said that he wants Musk to "stay as long as possible" in his position, but added that there will come a time when he will have to leave, in part because of the companies he controls.

When asked by a journalist how long he thinks Musk, who is classified as a special government employee, will work in his administration, he replied: "I mean, as long as he wants."

He added that he believes Musk will probably leave his position in "a few months." Trump also noted that department secretaries will take over Musk's job after his withdrawal, "and DOGE will remain active."

Vice President JD Vance made similar statements, saying that Musk would not be in office indefinitely.

"We realize that we could never have Elon for four years. That was not the deal we made. He has businesses that need to be managed. He wants to focus on this problem, solve it and help us," Vance said.

Trump also noted that department secretaries would take over Musk's job after he leaves, "and DOGE will remain active."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 1, Trump said that the Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk heads, would be disbanded "at a certain time."

However, the White House denied reports that Musk was preparing to resign.
