US President Donald Trump has called the verdict of French politician Marine Le Pen a "witch hunt," and the charges, he said, are petty and akin to an "accounting error."
He wrote about this in Truth Social.
"The witch hunt against Marine Le Pen is yet another example of how the European Left is using human rights activism to silence free speech and censor its political opponents, this time to the point of putting them in prison. It's the same 'plan' that was used against me by a group of crazy people and losers like Norm Eisen, Andrew Weissmann, and Lisa Monaco," he said.
He noted that he doesn't know Marine Le Pen, but he appreciates "how hard she's worked for so many years." Trump called Le Pen's charges petty and sounding like an "accounting error."
"She was losing, but she kept going, and now, just before what could have been her big win, she's being arrested on a petty charge she probably knew nothing about - to me, it sounds like an "accounting" error. This is all very bad for France and the Great French People, regardless of whose side they are on. Let's release Marine Le Pen!" US President.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, far-right politician Marine Le Pen was sentenced to 4 years in prison and fined EUR 100,000 for illegally embezzling European Parliament funds.
This is a case from 2004-2016, when assistants to MEPs from the far-right National Rally party simultaneously held official positions in the party and received salaries from European Parliament funds - this is prohibited by European law.
It should be noted that Marine Le Pen was the leader of the far-right National Rally party from January 16, 2011 to September 13, 2021.
French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that the law is the same for everyone, commenting on the conviction of Marine Le Pen.
