First official visit since start of war. Witkoff meets with putin's envoy in Washington – Reuters

US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met in Washington with the head of the russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev, who arrived in the American capital.

According to Reuters, two American officials familiar with the situation confirmed that russian president vladimir putin's official representative for investment issues met with US officials in Washington.

The meeting took place on Wednesday against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's attempts to end the russian-Ukrainian war and pressure on moscow and Kyiv.

What exactly was discussed during the talks is currently unknown, the publication notes.

Western media noted that Dmitriev's visit took place after Trump's statement about his dissatisfaction with the pace of peace talks between russia and Ukraine. On Sunday, the US President said he was “furious” with putin and was considering imposing sanctions on buyers of russian oil.

According to Reuters, Witkoff, who oversees the Trump administration’s contacts with the kremlin, invited Dmitriev to the US last week.

This visit was the first known arrival in the States of a high-ranking russian representative since the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Recall that Dmitriev was previously part of the russian delegation at the talks with the US, which took place on February 18, 2025 in Riyadh. At that time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Special Envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff participated in the meeting from the American side.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 1, russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Sergei Ryabkov said that moscow could not accept US proposals to end the war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the United States realized that it would not be possible to end the war in the coming months.
