Ukraine to receive USD 432 million from World Bank to restore transport infrastructure – Shmyhal

Ukraine will receive USD 432 million from the World Bank to restore transport infrastructure. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The relevant agreements within the framework of the DRIVE project were signed today in Kyiv between the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure of Ukraine and the World Bank. The project provides for major repairs of roads and bridges in 19 regions, reform of national highways, installation of modular bridges, as well as technical assistance. Its implementation will be handled by the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine.

Shmyhal noted that the Delivering Resilient Infrastructure in Vulnerable Environments Project for Ukraine (DRIVE) was approved by the World Bank Board of Directors at the end of last month. Part of the financing includes USD 212 million from the IBRD with the support of the Government of Japan and USD 10 million from the Trust Fund for Support, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform of Ukraine.

In turn, the Prime Minister for Reconstruction - Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba reported on the Telegram channel that according to the agreement, the first tranche will arrive this month, and the work is scheduled to be completed by 2028.

According to him, the project includes:

USD 270 million for the repair of roads and bridges in 19 regions, their maintenance and quality control;

USD 90 million for the reform of the road sector;

USD 39 million for the installation of emergency modular bridges and the protection of critical areas;

USD 10 million for technical assistance and management.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 31, Shmyhal reported that the Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 5.2 billion to the Reconstruction Agency and regional administrations for the reconstruction and operation of roads in frontline and near-frontline regions, which are used as a priority by the Security and Defense Forces
