Police officers detained a suspect in the murder of former deputy mayor of Kamianske Oleksandr Plakhotnik. This is indicated in a statement by the National Police.
As reported, criminal police operatives, having interviewed all possible witnesses and analyzed the recordings from video surveillance cameras, established the attacker's route. As a result of search measures, the suspect was found in the Lviv Region. He turned out to be a 54-year-old resident of Kamianske, who was acquainted with Plakhotnik. In order to hide the traces of the crime, the suspect burned the car he was using and fled to another region.
During searches at the suspect's place of residence, law enforcement officers seized weapons, ammunition, electronic media, mobile phones, camouflage clothing, an F-1 grenade and a fuse.
On March 29, the man was detained under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
On April 1, investigators of the Investigation Department of the Main Police Department of the Dnipropetrovsk Region informed the detainee of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Clause 6, Part 2, Article 115 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
He faces imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 28, the body of Batkivshchyna party member Oleksandr Plakhotnik was found on the side of the road.
