In June 2024, the State Duma increased the upper age limit for conscription from 27 to 30 years, which will potentially increase the number of conscripts by more than two million in the coming years.

The russian Ministry of Defense assures that conscripts will not be sent to war against Ukraine, nor will they serve in territories temporarily occupied by russia. At the same time, previous experience shows that russia uses conscripts in war, sending them to serve in border regions, after which the mobilized are involved in conducting hostilities against Ukraine.

Earlier, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko, stated that the russian federation has begun preparing its population for possible mobilization, arguing this with a possible war with Europe.
