The Weimar+ group (France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and the European Union) has announced its intention to increase assistance to Ukraine. It is also considering the possibility of increasing sanctions against the aggressor country of russia to force it to introduce a ceasefire.
This is announced in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the Weimar+ countries, Reuters reports.
The heads of foreign affairs departments of the Weimar+ countries and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas called on russia to agree to an immediate ceasefire.
The statement says that the Weimar+ countries are ready to increase pressure on russia, including by imposing new sanctions.
They also promised to increase military, humanitarian and political support for Ukraine. They did not provide any specific details.
The Weimar+ joint statement also states that Ukraine's allies will not adopt agreements that would limit the Ukrainian defense industry or the military presence of partners on the territory of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 31, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on russian oil if Moscow does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Last week, the head of the White House suggested that russian dictator vladimir putin may be deliberately delaying the conclusion of a peace agreement.
