Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that during the occupation of the Bucha district of the Kyiv Region in 2022, russians killed more than 1,700 people.
He said this as part of the Bucha-2025 summit, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"In Bucha and other communities of the region, we managed to uncover terrible crimes, but in the first days a terrible picture appeared before us. Here, the russians committed an act of genocide unprecedented in the territory of 21st century Europe. Cars with people were shot, bodies of civilians were on the streets of cities and villages, children and women were killed, and civilians were abducted. In the Bucha district alone, during the short occupation, the enemy killed more than 1,700 people. Throughout the Kyiv Region, the number of fatalities is many times higher," Shmyhal said.
Shmyhal noted that the crimes of the russians are documented, and Ukraine's position remains unchanged: criminal liability for the criminals, as well as russia's financial responsibility for military aggression, that is, confiscation of russian assets frozen in the West.
In his opinion, russian assets should be directed to the reconstruction of housing and infrastructure destroyed by the aggression.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 25, Ukraine's reconstruction needs amounted to almost USD 524 billion.
