The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved the use of the domestically produced 40 mm AGL-53 automatic grenade launcher in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is stated in the department's message.
It is reported that this grenade launcher can be installed on combat vehicles or light all-terrain vehicles. And with a special tripod it can be used as a group infantry weapon. The new model of the grenade launcher uses 40x53 mm ammunition. This is the standard of unitary shots for automatic grenade launcher systems of the armies of NATO countries.
The Ukrainian AGL-53 grenade launcher is distinguished by better accuracy of fire and firing range compared to its Soviet counterpart - the 30 mm AGS-17 easel automatic grenade launcher. As well as general ergonomics and reliability of the design.
The Ministry of Defense's message emphasizes that Ukrainian defense enterprises have also mastered the production of several models of grenade launchers for 40-mm rounds in recent years. These are single-shot models that are used as under-barrel attachments for small arms for firing unitary rounds of 40-mm caliber. Or they have a form factor for use in combat, as an additional weapon for an infantryman.
In general, Ukrainian gunsmiths have mastered the production of many models of infantry weapons: mortars of 60, 82 and 120 mm calibers; small arms - assault rifles of 5.56 mm caliber on the platform of AR carbines, anti-material and sniper rifles (chambered for 12.7x99 mm and 7.62x51 mm cartridges), as well as pistols and submachine guns for 9x19 mm ammunition.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense previously codified and approved for use in units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine the domestically produced "Bird of Prey" unmanned aerial vehicle complex.
