Tanker with almost million barrels of Arctic oil from russia refused to let into Indian port - Reuters

The administration of the port of Vadinar in western India did not let a tanker carrying about 800,000 barrels of russian Arctic oil "Varandey". The reason for this was the lack of proper documentation.

This was reported by the Reuters agency, citing its own sources.

According to Reuters, the port administration refused to let the tanker Andaman Skies, which was sailing under the flag of Tanzania. It is transporting crude oil from the russian company Lukoil. The cargo for the ship was received in the port of Murmansk.

The oil was intended for the Indian state-owned oil refining company Indian Oil Corporation.

The agency's sources said that the reason for the refusal to enter the port was the lack of a seaworthiness certificate. Without it, tankers older than 20 years are not allowed to enter Indian ports.

This document is issued by the International Association of Classification Societies or an organization authorized by the Indian Maritime Administration.

The Andaman Skies vessel was built in 2004. It has a certificate from the Dakar Class company. The Indian authorities do not recognize this company.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late February, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited India to ask the Indian leadership to ensure compliance with the sanctions imposed against russia.

And in January of this year, Reuters wrote that India and China suspended purchases of russian oil due to sanctions imposed by the administration of former US President Joseph Biden.
