US Department of State to fund program documenting Ukrainian children abductions - Reuters

The US Department of State has announced short-term funding for an initiative documenting the abductions of Ukrainian children. The funds will go to ensure the transfer of collected information to the relevant authorities.

This is reported by Reuters.

A Department of State representative explained that the funding will continue during the transition period, while the program implementers complete the transfer of critical data. He emphasized that this is standard procedure for programs that cease their activities: "This is part of the standard procedure for closing programs that cease their activities."

Earlier this month, US Democratic lawmakers called on the Trump administration to restore the program.

The project, funded by the US government and implemented by the Yale University's Humanitarian Research Lab (Yale HRL), helped establish the location of thousands of Ukrainian children who were taken away by russia.

Earlier, The Washington Post, citing a source familiar with the program, reported that the termination of the Department's of State contract with the Yale University's Humanitarian Research Lab could lead to the loss of a database of evidence of war crimes. It was created at a cost of USD 26 million.

Meanwhile, the US Department of State denied information about the destruction of a database of Ukrainian children who were illegally taken to russia.
