Mortgage lending in January increased by 29% to UAH 867 million

In January, Ukrainian banks issued 475 mortgage loans for a total amount of UAH 867 million, which is 29% higher than in December.

This is evidenced by the data of the monthly Survey of Banks on Mortgage Lending, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Key findings of the survey:

- most loans by volume and quantity were issued on the secondary real estate market;

- the weighted average effective rate in January was 8.3% per annum.

In terms of regions, the largest number of mortgage loans in January were issued:

- in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region (260 agreements for a total amount of UAH 517.3 million, or 59.7% of the total);

- in the Lviv Region (23 agreements for UAH 45.2 million);

- in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region (22 contracts for UAH 33.7 million).

During the survey, 41 banks responded with a share of 99% of the total gross mortgage portfolio as of the end of 2021, of which 14 banks reported on the issuance of new mortgage loans.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023, Ukrainian banks issued 6,114 mortgage loans for a total amount of UAH 9.1 billion.
