US court temporarily blocks Trump administration from shutting down Radio Liberty

Federal Judge Royce Lamberth has issued a ruling temporarily blocking the Trump administration from shutting down Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

As ABC News reports, citing Lambert's statement, the court on Tuesday, March 25, issued a temporary injunction to liquidate the organization. The judge recognized that the Trump administration's attempt to deprive the media group of funding is "not supported by any facts or reasoning" and likely violates federal law.

"The leadership of the [US Agency for Global Media] cannot, with one sentence that explains virtually nothing, force RFE/RL to shut down - even if the president ordered them to do so," Lambert stressed.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 15, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing him to cut funding for seven government agencies as part of the government's efforts to cut costs.

The US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which is home to Radio Liberty and Voice of America, has been hit by funding cuts.

Radio Liberty President and CEO Steven Kapus said Trump's decision to cut funding is "a big gift to America's enemies."

Meanwhile, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has filed a lawsuit against the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and its officials, seeking to block the government's attempt to cut funding as mandated by the US Congress.
