The Law Enforcement Committee recommends that the Verkhovna Rada allow the National Guard to stop cars with firearms.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement recommends that the parliament adopt in the second reading a bill that proposes to allow National Guard servicemen to use firearms to stop cars.
This is stated in the approved version of bill No. 10311, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to Article 18 of the bill proposed by the main committee in the final version, National Guard servicemen have the right to use firearms in exceptional circumstances.
In particular, they will be able to use them to stop a vehicle by damaging it.
National Guardsmen will be able to do this only if the driver's actions pose a threat to the life or health of the National Guard serviceman or other persons.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Activities recommends that the parliament adopt a bill in second reading that would allow National Guard soldiers to use firearms against citizens.
