Germany calls for preparing country's healthcare system for possible war

The government of the federal state of Bavaria has announced the need to prepare Germany's healthcare system for a possible war, as it is as important for defense as the armed forces.

Bavarian Health Minister Judith Gerlach has stated this, according to Zeit.

"The military threat to Europe from Russia and the possible withdrawal of the new US President Trump from the former security partnership also mean the need to take large-scale measures for the German healthcare system and civil society in general," Gerlach said.

She emphasized that the German healthcare system must be able to provide care for a significantly larger number of people than in peacetime.

Gerlach also added that such an initiative should extend not only to Bavaria, but also to the whole of Germany and the European Union.

According to Zeit, the Bavarian government has already asked hospitals to provide information on the status of their emergency deployment plans.

In addition, a number of organizations are also training auxiliary medical personnel who can assist nurses in emergency situations.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in early March, the head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service, Bruno Kahl, said that russia could attack Europe much earlier if the war in Ukraine ends by 2030.
