Military personnel aged 18-24 will be able to obtain higher education without interrupting their service – Umerov

Military personnel aged 18-24 will be able to study at higher education institutions in parallel with their service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced this on his Facebook page, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Military personnel will be able to obtain higher education without interrupting their service. The Ministry of Defense has developed amendments to the Regulations on Military Service, which allow contract servicemen and conscripts aged 18-24 to study at higher education institutions. To do this, it is necessary to obtain permission from the unit commander or higher command. The decision is formalized by an order for the military unit," he said.

Umerov noted that this is especially important for those who sign a contract under the "Contract 18-24" project, such servicemen will have the opportunity not only to serve, but also to study, develop professional skills and prepare for a future career – both in the army and in civilian life.

The project, developed and submitted by the Ministry of Defense, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. In the near future, it will be submitted to the President for signature.

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense emphasizes that training should not interfere with the performance of official duties by a serviceman in his position.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in February the Ministry of Defense officially launched the "Contract 18-24" project - an initiative for volunteers aged 18-24 who are ready to join the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

A 1-year contract provides for a salary of UAH 1 million, the possibility of a "zero" mortgage, education at state expense, free medical care, including dental prosthetics, the right to travel abroad after a year of service, and guaranteed exemption from mobilization for 12 months after the end of the contract.
