The permit for the Energoatom national nuclear power generating company to purchase equipment (nuclear reactors and components) from the National Electric Company of Bulgaria for the construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP came into force on March 16.
This is evidenced by the text of the law, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The law on the permit for the purchase was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on February 11.
On March 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law, and the next day it was published in Holos Ukrainy.
According to its provisions, the law comes into force on the day after its publication, respectively – March 16.
The law grants Energoatom permission to conduct negotiations, agree on the final version of the contract, sign it, make payment, accept and store the equipment.
It is also stipulated that Energoatom cannot carry out work on the placement, design and construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP without the adoption of a special law.
Earlier, the initiative to build power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP based on Rosatom reactors delivered to Bulgaria caused controversy during discussions in expert circles and among politicians.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, in a comment to the European Pravda publication, stated that the project was developed without the participation of the EU and it will not finance it, since the European Union does not finance nuclear energy projects at all.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Andrii Zhupanyn, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services, believes that the completion of two power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP will make it possible to avoid increasing tariffs for the population.
