"It's time for russia to come to negotiating table in good faith" - Canada's new PM Carney

Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney held talks with his British counterpart Keir Starmer and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He stressed that Canada is a staunch ally of Ukraine and called on the aggressor country of russia to come to the negotiating table.

He announced this on his page on X.

“I spoke with Prime Minister Starmer, President Zelenskyy, and many of our closest allies this morning to discuss Ukraine’s path to peace,” he said.

Carney added that Canada supports the proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

“Now, russia must stop stalling and launching its attacks. It’s time for russia to come to the table in good faith. As the G7 agreed at Charlevoix, we will tighten the monitoring of sanctions to encourage compliance.

Canada is Ukraine’s steadfast ally. We will make sure Ukraine has the military support it needs to defend itself - now and into the future,” the Canadian Prime Minister stressed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney won the leadership election of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada. He replaced Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister.
