Russian dictator vladimir putin is not going to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. He will try to delay the process of any peace agreements.
This is stated in a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It is noted that the Kremlin is not interested in a ceasefire. Instead, russia wants to delay the negotiation process in order to use the pause to rearm its forces.
Analysts recalled that after a meeting with the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, putin said that he wanted to have a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to them, this is the dictator's latest step aimed at positioning Moscow and Washington as equals on the world stage.
The report also mentions that russian sources have recently stated that putin is seeking to delay talks on a possible temporary ceasefire. They are confident that his recent public statements are consistent with this.
Classified US intelligence documents have confirmed that putin is not abandoning his plans to gain full control of Ukraine, ISW stressed. This is also confirmed by American officials.
ISW noted that putin, during his recent statements, has focused more on Trump’s words that Ukrainian troops are allegedly surrounded in the Kursk Oblast. Analysts are sure that the russian dictator is trying to divert attention from the fact that he has abandoned the US-Ukrainian initiative for a ceasefire.
The Institute for the Study of War added that there is currently no geolocation evidence that russian troops have surrounded a significant number of Ukrainian units in the Kursk Oblast. However, the occupiers have advanced slightly towards the border with Ukraine in this region.
The report also states that Ukrainian strikes on russian air defenses are allowing Ukrainian long-range drones to increasingly penetrate russian air defense systems deep behind the lines. This is confirmed by the recent strike on targets in the Moscow Oblast.
Analysts said that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have advanced in Toretsk. At the same time, the russians have gained an advantage near Siversk and Pokrovsk.
