The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said that the security situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by the russians is unstable.
His words are quoted in a report on the official IAEA website.
According to him, members of the IAEA monitoring mission who are at the Zaporizhzhia NPP have heard the sounds of explosions for most of the past few days. The ruptures occurred at various distances from the power plant site.
He added that IAEA experts continue to monitor nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, in particular, the ongoing site maintenance work.
Thus, in February, maintenance of the automatic circuit breaker of one of the three power transmission lines, which remained de-energized due to hostilities, began at the 750 kV open distribution point.
This week, maintenance of the main transformer of reactor unit No. 5 and the circuit breaker connecting it to the open distribution point began at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
IAEA experts also examined twelve sprinkler ponds at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. It was found that they contain enough water to cool six reactors in their current state.
As the Ukrainian News agency reported, in early March it became known that the occupiers had sentenced a 56-year-old Zaporizhzhia NPP employee to 15 years in prison for allegedly "collaborating" with Ukrainian special services.
We also wrote that on February 28, the power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP was restored to the reserve line, which had been disconnected for more than two weeks due to russian shelling.
