As a result of the strike by the aggressor country of russia on the port in Odesa on March 11, a ship under the Barbados flag was damaged, four Syrian citizens were killed.
Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction - Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Last night, russia struck. The ship MJ PINA under the Barbados flag was damaged by a ballistic missile. Unfortunately, four people were killed - Syrian citizens. The youngest deceased was 18, the oldest - 24. Two more people were injured - a Ukrainian and a Syrian. They are being provided with the necessary assistance," he said.
Kuleba noted that at the time of the strike, the ship was loading wheat for export to Algeria. Another ship, berths, and grain storage warehouses were also damaged.
"Russia is attacking Ukrainian infrastructure, in particular ports that are involved in ensuring the world's food security. It is important that port infrastructure is protected from terror, and free and safe navigation is guaranteed. We must continue to strengthen our air defense, and achieve reliable peace and security by force of arms and diplomacy," he stressed.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported that on March 11 at 8:17 p.m., russia launched a ballistic missile strike on the dry cargo ship MJ Pinar in the port of Odesa. At the time of the strike, the ship was loading wheat for export; it was supposed to leave Odesa for Algeria. According to preliminary information, four crew members of the foreign ship were killed, and another sailor was injured. In addition to the ship, other port infrastructure was also damaged.
