J.D. Vance's cousin fought for Ukraine with Da Vinci Wolves for 2.5 years – media

Nate Vance, cousin of US Vice President J.D. Vance, voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine after russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and spent 2.5 years on the front lines as part of the Da Vinci Wolves battalion.

Le Figaro has reported this.

The 47-year-old American, a native of Texas, lived in Ukraine for three years, of which he fought in the hottest spots - near Kupiansk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Pokrovsk – for more than two years. However, in January 2025, on the eve of his cousin's inauguration as vice president, he left the service.

Vance said he was outraged after hearing an argument between his cousin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office of the White House on February 28.

"J.D. is a good, smart guy. When he criticized aid to Ukraine, I thought it was just a political game to please voters. But what they (J.D. Vance and Donald Trump – ed.) did to Zelenskyy was an ambush with absolute bad faith," Nate is sure.

He admitted that he was disappointed with his brother's position: "I was disappointed. When J.D. justified his distrust of Zelenskyy with some "reports" that he had seen, I thought I would suffocate. I could have told him the truth, without pretense, without personal interest. But he never tried to find out more."

Nate tried to contact his brother, left messages at his office, but did not receive a response.

Until 2022, he lived a civilian life, built a career in an oil company and had Republican views. He also served in the Marine Corps 20 years ago.

The US Vice President's mother, Beverly, is the sister of Nate's father, James.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 28, during the public part of the meeting, Zelenskyy got into a heated argument with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

US Vice President J.D. Vance became a participant in the conflict between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on February 28, after which the signing of a mineral agreement between Ukraine and the United States was disrupted.

After that, protests swept across the United States due to Vance's attitude towards Ukraine. On March 8, he stated that pro-Ukrainian demonstrators harassed him while walking with his daughter.

The media noted that Vance takes a tougher position on the mineral agreement in Ukraine than Donald Trump.
