The cross removed from All Saints Church in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was dismantled to prevent destruction.
The National Reserve Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has reported this.
The Lavra explained that blast waves, seismic waves and vibrations caused by russian shelling threaten historical monuments. They can cause "hidden but irreversible damage to architectural objects", the Lavra says.
Therefore, to prevent further destruction, the cross from the Church of All Saints was dismantled, but it will be returned to its place in the near future after restoration.
The reserve also said that such work is part of an international joint project of UNESCO and the Japan Trust Fund "Support for Ukraine in Culture and Education through UNESCO", during which not only will the damage and protection of monuments be assessed, but also additional security measures will be taken.
To this end, last week, UNESCO representatives supported the idea of installing sensors to monitor the condition of the Church of All Saints, which, in particular, will track the impact of blast waves from russian shelling.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Yevhen Klopotenko previously filmed a culinary show in the refectory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Social media users were divided: there are those who supported the chef, but some commentators condemned him.
