MEPs from the pro-European Volt party have developed a nine-point plan to strengthen support for Ukraine and limit the actions of countries that block joint decisions of the European Union, Politico reports.
Among other things, the plan includes a proposal to deprive Hungary of its voting rights for systematically blocking joint decisions on aid to Ukraine. The document also recommends appointing Kaja Kallas as a full-fledged EU foreign minister with expanded powers.
Other proposals include the creation of a joint European army and a revision of EU treaties to include new provisions in the field of defense and preparation for the enlargement of the Union.
According to the publication's sources, most EU member states demonstrate unity in supporting Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression, but Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán continues to create obstacles. European leaders express concern that Orbán’s actions could disrupt the planned summit.
It is worth noting that the proposal to deprive Hungary of its voting rights was already put forward in July 2024 after Orbán's international tour, which included a visit to russia.
As previously reported, Hungary may support sanctions against russia if the United States takes such a step.
