Republican Representative Darrell Issa announced that he will nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This was reported by The Hill with reference to the congressman’s post on the social network X.
“Today I will nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. No one deserves it more,” Issa wrote.
The congressman did not specify the reasons for the nomination, but his press secretary explained that it is related to Trump’s peace initiatives in the Middle East.
Direct speech by Issa's deputy chief of staff, Jonathan Wilcox: "Congressman Issa recently led a delegation to four countries in the Middle East - he heard firsthand from several heads of state that the spirit of peace and a move away from conflict is real and multifaceted. Since his election and since his inauguration, President Trump has inspired and advanced the cause of peace - and done so in a way that we have not heard in many years."
He added that Trump promotes "the aspiration for a world without war."
The Hill notes that the statement was made against the backdrop of a change in US policy regarding the war in Ukraine - Trump has increased pressure on Volodymyr Zelenskyy while improving relations with vladimir putin.
Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the past, but he has never won it.
As previously reported, russian singer Elizaveta Girdшmova (Monetochka) and rapper Ivan Alekseev (Noize MC) have been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
