Meloni arrives to meet Starmer ahead of Ukraine summit

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has arrived in London to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of a summit of European leaders on the war in Ukraine following a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump.

The Associated Press reports this.

Starmer greeted Meloni outside 10 Downing Street, kissing her on both cheeks.

Meloni, a staunch supporter of Ukraine, is said to be positioning herself as a bridge between Trump and Europe.

Prime Minister Meloni was the only European leader to attend Trump's inauguration, and her office said she spoke with the U.S. President on Saturday evening, ahead of the meeting in London.

Britain is hosting a summit of European leaders on Sunday to bolster support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a stunning Oval Office spat with President Donald Trump that left many unsure where the once-loyal allies stand.

The London meeting has taken on even greater significance for defending Ukraine and strengthening the continent's defenses.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who hosts leaders from more than a dozen countries and other officials, hugged Zelenskyy upon his arrival in London on Saturday, saying he was determined to find a way to end russia's war against Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Trump administration wants Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to publicly apologize after the White House row. They believe that this is a key condition for establishing good relations.

Last Friday, February 28, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington to meet with Donald Trump.

However, during the public part of the meeting, Zelenskyy got into a heated argument with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, who also took part in the conversation.

As it became known later, the Ukrainian President left the White House early, and the agreement was never signed.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House was not successful, and the Ukrainian leader overdid it.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope for normalization of relations with the U.S.

After the dispute, words of support were heard from a number of European countries for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine as a whole after he left the White House early amid a dispute during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
