President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would be ready for diplomacy when the United States offers security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said this in an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, his words are quoted by the Financial Times.
According to him, when Ukraine is offered effective security guarantees, "we will come to diplomacy" with the Americans, Europeans and russians.
"Without your support, it will be difficult, but we cannot lose our values <...> We cannot lose our freedom," the President said.
Baier asked Zelenskyy whether he intended to heed the words of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who the day before called on him to resign.
The Ukrainian leader said that with all his respect for Graham, only Ukrainians vote for their President.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 28, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a meeting with U.S. leader Donald Trump.
The main purpose of the Ukrainian President's visit was an agreement on minerals and rare earth minerals, which was planned to be signed at the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
However, during the public part of the meeting, Zelenskyy got into a heated argument with Trump over Washington's soft approach to russian dictator vladimir putin.
Later, Zelenskyy and Trump had a closed-door conversation, but it did not last long. As it later became known, the Ukrainian President left the White House early.
After that, Trump wrote on the Truth Social network that Zelenskyy was allegedly not ready for peace and had shown disrespect for the United States. He called on him to return when he was ready for negotiations.
And Zelenskyy wrote on the X social network (formerly Twitter) that Ukraine needs a just and lasting peace.
