Metinvest and Danieli signed a shareholders' agreement on a partnership within Metinvest Adria S.p.A on February 19 at the Italian Ministry of Enterprise and Production in Rome.
The company has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The statement said that this agreement is an important component of the project to build a modern steel plant in the Italian city of Piombino.
It consolidates the main agreements between Metinvest and Danieli Groups on joint management, decision-making and financing that will facilitate the construction of a new plant, which is to become a steel bridge connecting the metallurgy of the two countries – Ukraine and Italy.
The shareholders' agreement is expected to enter into full force in the second half of 2025, after all conditions precedent are met, including obtaining the necessary regulatory permits.
The contract covers basic engineering for electric arc furnaces, steelmaking repartitioning, casting and rolling on the Danieli QSP-DUE module. In addition, it is planned to create a cold steel processing and service center, as well as auxiliary plants and equipment.
The use of advanced technologies will ensure high productivity and environmental safety of the plant.
It is noted that on November 20, 2024, Metinvest Group and Danieli signed a declaration on the construction of a large green steel plant during a meeting of the governments of Italy and Ukraine in Rome.
The project involves the creation of a steel plant with a capacity of 2.7 million tons per year. The construction of the plant is planned to be financed mainly by funds raised from international financial and credit institutions and shareholders' own funds.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in mid-September 2025, the Metinvest group announced that it plans to begin construction of a EUR 2.5 billion steel plant in Italy at the end of 2024.
Metinvest has two steel plants in Italy: Metinvest Trametal (San Giorgio di Nogaro, province of Udine) and Ferriera Valsider (Vallese di Oppeano, province of Verona).
The main shareholders of the Metinvest group are SCM (71.24%) and the Smart Holding group (23.76%), which participate in the management of Metinvest on a partnership basis.
100% of SCM shares belong to businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
