In 2024, large international companies paid UAH 12.6 billion "Google Tax" in Ukraine

In 2024, international non-resident companies that provide electronic services to individuals in the customs territory of Ukraine declared over UAH 12.6 billion in tax liabilities.

This was announced by the State Tax Service, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

It is noted that this is equivalent to EUR 130.6 million or USD 151.2 million.

125 payers, who are participants in the so-called "Google tax" payment system submitted corresponding reports.

The report states that there is a significant growth dynamics compared to 2023: the number of registered payers increased by 28 people, and the amount of tax liabilities increased by almost UAH 5 billion.

In 2023, 97 taxpayers filed reports, declaring UAH 8 billion of tax liabilities (EUR 105.8 million and USD 118.9 million).

Among the companies that paid the largest amounts of tax are the owners of popular Internet resources: upwork.com, netflix.com, apple.com, facebook.com, instagram.com, valvesoftware.com, etsy.com, google.com, playstation.com, aws.amazon.com, bolt.eu.

In total, they declared and paid more than UAH 10.2 billion of VAT (EUR 121.8 million and USD 119 million).

As of February 1, 2025, 131 VAT payers were registered in Ukraine among non-residents who provide electronic services to individuals.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early January, the head of the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, reported that revenues from the "Google tax" had increased by 40% to UAH 11.2 billion, exceeding expectations 4 times.

In June 2021, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law introducing a "Google tax", which required foreign tech giants to pay 20% value added tax (VAT), like other businesses registered in Ukraine.

The Verkhovna Rada increased taxes and returned 50% of the tax on excess profits of banks.
