Russia's missile and drone attacks on gas production facilities in Ukraine have led to a 40% reduction in its volumes. Due to the lack of fuel, our country will be forced to import it. In February and March alone, the Ukrainian government plans to purchase up to 800 million cubic meters of gas.
This was reported by Reuters, citing its sources.
According to the publication, before the russian attacks on the network, Ukraine produced up to 52 million cubic meters of gas per day, and consumed 110-140 million cubic meters per day in the winter, covering the difference with previously purchased gas. Now, however, the reserves are insufficient to compensate for the fuel shortage.
The current level of gas production in Ukraine is not disclosed due to the sensitivity of data in wartime. But, as the agency’s sources indicate, the russians have made great efforts to make gas extraction in the Poltava and Kharkiv Regions, where the main gas deposits being developed are located, as difficult as possible.
Reuters reminds that the heating season in Ukraine ends in April. At that time, the country will begin pumping gas into gas storage facilities for the next season 2025/2026. By that time, the gas storage facilities will need to be filled with 13 billion cubic meters of gas.
At the beginning of the current heating season, there were 12.9 billion cubic meters of gas in Ukraine’s gas storage facilities, the journalists note.
