U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (this position is similar to the chief of staff in other armies) Charles Brown and five other generals and admirals.
"I want to thank General Charles ‘CQ’ Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country, including as our current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish a great future for him and his family," Trump wrote.
The change in personnel policy in the army was previously announced by the new U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. He said that people associated with the diversity and inclusion policy supported by the previous administration of Joe Biden should leave the army.
"Any general who was involved in this should go," Hegseth said.
Now, in official statements, Hegseth is speaking more restrainedly, explaining that DEI programs "are not of great importance to our mission, so we intend to get rid of them."
