After russian missile strikes, Ukrainian gas production fell by 40% - media

After russian missile strikes and a 40% drop in domestic gas production, Ukraine plans to import up to 800 million cubic meters of gas from Europe in February and March 2025 to compensate for the deficit.

This is reported by Reuters.

Before the russian attacks, Ukraine produced about 52 million cubic meters of gas per day, while winter consumption fluctuated between 110 and 140 million cubic meters per day. The deficit was covered by gas storage facilities. However, after attacks on energy infrastructure, including gas fields, the country is forced to import gas to cover the deficit.

"We could do without imports this heating season, but the attacks on production are forcing us to import gas to compensate for this reduction in domestic production," the material says.

Ukraine's gas transmission system operator said the country began increasing gas imports in early February. Since then, import volumes have increased almost 10-fold, reaching more than 20 million cubic meters per day.
