Government sets task to bring its own weapons production to at least half of needs, - Shmyhal

The Cabinet of Ministers sets itself the task of bringing Ukrainian weapons production to at least half of the needs.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"We currently produce about a third of the weapons we need ourselves. The task that the Government sets itself is to bring our own weapons production to at least half of the current needs. To achieve this goal, this year we have allocated a record amount for the modernization of our own defense industry and the purchase of weapons," he noted.

The Prime Minister noted that in the drone segment, domestic production already accounts for almost 100%.

Shmyhal also reported that today the government is making a decision to allocate another UAH 7.9 billion for the purchase of drones, these funds will be redirected to the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, which will make the necessary purchases.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to Shmyhal, in January 2025, the production of Ukrainian drones increased 10 times compared to January 2024.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in January that this year Ukraine wants to set a record for the number of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will allow it to stop the enemy's advance.
