US not decided yet whether to support UN resolution condemning russia's invasion of Ukraine

Washington has not yet decided whether to support a UN resolution on Ukraine before the third anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion.

John Kelly, a political coordinator of the U.S. permanent mission to the UN, reported this, in a commentary for Voice of America on Thursday, February 20.

When asked whether the U.S. would co-sponsor the resolution, Kelly replied: "We have not made a decision on that. Washington is still deciding. So, hopefully, we will make a decision soon."

Regarding a possible vote in favor of the resolution, he said: "We will need to see what instructions we get from Washington. So, hopefully, they will come soon."

Earlier, Reuters reported that the United States has not yet agreed to co-sponsor a draft UN resolution that supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and demands that russia immediately withdraw its troops from its territory.

Diplomatic sources report that the resolution is sponsored by more than 50 countries. At the same time, "so far the situation is such that they (the U.S.) will not sign it," one of the sources noted.

The UN General Assembly is expected to vote on the resolution on Monday, February 24. Although such resolutions are not binding, they have political weight, as they reflect the attitude of the world community to russia's war against Ukraine.

It is also reported that the U.S. objects to the wording "Russian aggression" in the statement being prepared by the G7, although discussions on this topic are ongoing.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the UN has denied Trump's statement about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s "illegitimacy."
