Budanov believes it will be possible to achieve ceasefire in 2025

The head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, believes that Ukraine will be able to achieve a ceasefire in 2025.

Budanov said this in an interview with journalist Eynulla Fatullayev, published on February 18, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"This is a paradoxical situation. Despite the fact that the starting positions of the parties are diametrically opposed, as far as possible, at the same time, I think that this year we will reach a ceasefire. How long it will be, how effective it will be - this is another question. But the fact that it will happen... I think that it will happen. There are most of the components for this to happen," he said.

At the same time, Budanov emphasized that this is his personal opinion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, the Financial Times, citing Ukrainian and Western high-ranking officials, reported that US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin could try to achieve a ceasefire by April 20 (Easter) or by May 9.

Reuters, citing a European official, reported that European leaders who gathered for a summit in Paris on February 17 warned Ukraine against freezing hostilities on the front without concluding a peace agreement.

In November, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that calls for a ceasefire without providing security guarantees for Ukraine were very dangerous rhetoric, since stopping hostilities under such conditions would lead to the continuation of the occupation of Ukraine and its loss of independence. Thus, he responded to the words of US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller that the United States would support Ukrainian President Zelenskyy if he was ready to negotiate with russia.
