Nariman Dzhelyal to be Ukraine's new ambassador to Türkiye – Zelenskyy

The new Ambassador of Ukraine to Türkiye will be Nariman Dzhelyal, deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

Zelenskyy said this during a conversation with the media following the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Today, in the Ukrainian delegation, we have Nariman Dzhelyal, he is deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, a very respected person in Ukraine, and he, unfortunately, suffered Russian repressions. He was captured when he was returning home, returning to our Ukrainian Crimea. And for almost three years, Nariman spent time in Russian prison simply because he is a patriot, simply because of his clear position, he did nothing wrong. Fortunately, we managed to release him. Recently, I decided to appoint him as the new Ambassador of Ukraine to Türkiye," he said.

According to Zelenskyy, it is symbolic that Nariman Dzhelyal will begin his work in the new building of the Ukrainian embassy, which was officially opened today.
