The extremely low level of seizure of counterfeit foreign currency banknotes, which was observed in 2022–2023, also almost returned to the level of 2021 by the end of 2024.
This is stated in the NBU message, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Among the counterfeit foreign currency banknotes withdrawn from circulation in 2024, U.S. dollars prevailed - 93% of the total number of all counterfeit foreign currency banknotes withdrawn.
Euro banknotes last year accounted for only 7% of the counterfeit foreign currency banknotes withdrawn.
Most often, criminals counterfeited foreign banknotes of the following denominations:
USD 100 and USD 50 (90% and 9% of the total number of counterfeit U.S. dollars withdrawn);
EUR 200, EUR 100 and EUR 50 (35%, 25% and 21% of the total number of counterfeit euros seized, respectively).
To avoid cases of receiving counterfeit foreign currency, the National Bank advises never to carry out currency exchange operations "in person", via the Internet, etc.
To do this, you should contact only the currency exchange points of banks or non-bank financial institutions licensed by the National Bank.
After all, all counterfeit foreign currency seized from circulation is guaranteed to be sorted as suspicious using properly configured counters and banknote sorters (in particular with the function of controlling ultraviolet, infrared and magnetic protection).
That is, counterfeits do not pose a threat to banks and financial institutions, but are primarily designed for the inattention and lack of knowledge of citizens.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023, the most frequently counterfeited banknotes were UAH 200, UAH 500 and UAH 100.
According to the results of 2023, there were about 2.1 counterfeit banknotes per 1 million genuine hryvnia banknotes (according to the results of 2022, there were about 2.2 banknotes).
