Ukraine and partners have made great progress on the issue of the deployment of a foreign military contingent in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said this during a video conference with media representatives, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"I believe that we have made great progress on the issue of the contingent. I believe that there are countries that are skeptical, and they can remain so... But I see that the issue of the contingent, the issue of the European army as a whole, can have such a first step - what I said about the Armed Forces of Europe... The first step is when there is a Ukrainian army and there are the Armed Forces of Europe on the territory of Ukraine. I believe that this is the first platform for the future creation of such a force - the Armed Forces of Europe, such an army that in the sky, on water, on land, with drones on artificial intelligence, etc. - will be able to respond in the event of an attack, an unprovoked war by Russia," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine, together with its partners, can create a platform of strong countries, only those who want to participate in this.
He emphasized that Ukraine wants security guarantees not on paper, but on land, on water, in the sky, we are talking about air defense, aircraft, ships.
Zelenskyy noted that France's initiative to deploy a foreign contingent in Ukraine is now supported by the Nordic countries and the United Kingdom, and this is a good start.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in January, while participating in a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (Ramstein) in Germany, Zelenskyy said that he considers the deployment of partner contingents in Ukraine to be one of the best tools for forcing the aggressor country russia to make peace.
Zelenskyy also noted regarding the possible number of peacekeepers in Ukraine that it should depend on the size of the Ukrainian army, Ukraine needs a million-strong army to stop the russians.
