Poroshenko says President’s Office offered him condition under which sanctions would not be imposed against him

Former President, Verkhovna Rada member from the European Solidarity faction Petro Poroshenko said that the Office of the President offered not to impose sanctions against him if his faction voted for the bill on the purchase of reactors for the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda online publication, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"I was offered that if the faction votes for the bill on the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant, then I will not have problems with sanctions... They offered. Directly from the Office of the President," Poroshenko said.

He noted that he refused to vote for the relevant bill.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada granted permission to the Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company to purchase equipment (nuclear reactors and components) from the National Electricity Company of Bulgaria for the construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

The Holos and European Solidarity factions did not vote for the relevant decision.
