Can't buy coffee at gas station. Poroshenko confirms his accounts blocked

Former President, Verkhovna Rada member from the European Solidarity faction Petro Poroshenko has confirmed that his bank accounts were blocked after sanctions were imposed against him.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda online publication, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"I would like to avoid the position "What does this (sanctions) mean personally for Poroshenko?" Poroshenko will survive. Although, of course, there are a number of things that create trouble. For example, I can't buy coffee at a gas station because my cards are blocked, my accounts are blocked, and my assets are seized," he answered when asked whether sanctions against him had begun to take effect.

According to Poroshenko, the application of sanctions against him indicates that the current government is preparing for the elections and undermines Ukraine's image.

He recalled that he is the author of the Law On Sanctions and is convinced that the law does not provide for the application of sanctions against citizens of Ukraine, with the exception of persons involved in terrorist activities, in particular in the occupied territories.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the evening of February 12, the National Security and Defense Council at a meeting imposed sanctions against the former president of Ukraine, Member of Parliament and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko.
