French President Emmanuel Macron said that only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy can negotiate to end the war on behalf of Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters.
The head of state warned during an interview at the Elysee Palace that "a peace that is a capitulation would be bad news for everyone, including the U.S."
Macron paid tribute to Donald Trump for "creating a window of opportunity" where "everyone has to play their role." The French President believes that the issue of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty can only be discussed by Zelenskyy, and European leaders should participate in defining guarantees for the Ukrainian state and the overall security architecture on the continent.
"Trump's return is an electroshock that should force Europe to secure its own future as well as Ukraine’s," Macron concluded.
Recall that speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump confirmed that Ukraine will get a seat at the negotiating table with russia on a possible ceasefire.
Earlier on February 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Trump's talks with russian dictator vladimir putin cannot begin without a united position of Ukraine, the European Union, and the United States.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Euronews claims, citing sources, that Zelenskyy will meet with the U.S. Secretary of State and Vice President at the Munich Conference.
And Trump's special envoy for russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said on February 5 that he will discuss the issue of ending the war at the Munich Security Conference.
