A U.S. Air Force plane carrying Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch was forced to return to Washington due to a technical malfunction.
This is reported by the Associated Press.
According to the publication, the incident occurred late Thursday night. Approximately 90 minutes after takeoff from Joint Base Andrews, the C-32 aircraft, converted from a Boeing 757, had a problem with the windshield in the cockpit. Because of this, the ship was forced to return to the military base.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce confirmed the situation and noted that "The secretary intends to continue his travel to Germany and the Middle East on a separate aircraft."
It is unclear whether the delay will affect the scheduled meeting between Secretary of State Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Munich.
"Although Rubio plans to resume his journey on a new plane, it was not immediately clear if the delay would cause him to miss a scheduled Friday morning meeting with Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Munich," the AP reported.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are scheduled to meet and talk with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday, February 14.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to attend the Munich Security Conference, which will be held this year from February 14 to 16.
